How to Tell the Difference
First, remember that FDIC insurance protects only deposits. Mutual funds, stocks and bonds are subject to investment risks, including the possible loss of principal, even if you bought them from your FDIC-insured institution. Treasury securities and Savings Bonds, while not insured by the FDIC, are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.
